The History of Yoga - Where Can Yoga Come ?

No One knows exactly how old yoga is. It originated. It had been handed down orally and has gone through evolution that was much. to Yoga was discovered when archeological excavations were made from the Indus valley - an amazing powerful and powerful civilization from the period that was antique. This complex culture developed around the long gone river and the Indus river in India and'd sewer systems as early as 2,600 BC.

While many religions continue It goes to all people to want to create yoga their production. It has many aspects which is found in the Hindu and Buddhist religion, but the basic principals are worldwide and according to"the eight limbs of yoga", which can be found in all religions.
The History of Yoga is defined as four periods:

Vedic Pre-Classical Period, Period, Classical Period, Post Classical Period and the Modern Period
History of Yoga

Yoga Is said to be as old as civilization itself but this practice's transmission, has left several openings in its foundation. Earliest archeological evidence concerning the presence of yoga is found in Mohenjodaro seals excavated from the Indus valley, constituting a figure seated in a yoga pose. The stone seals put Yoga's presence around 3000 B.C.

The Vedic Period

The next Reference to yoga is located in the Rig Veda. The Vedas, dating back to 1500 and 1200 BC, are a group of brahmanical rituals and hymns, mantras which praised a being that is greater. Yoga is referred to in the publication as subject or yoking without any mention of a procedure or a practice to attain this subject. Yoga is also mentioned by the Atharva Veda using a reference to restraining the breath.

Pre-Classical Period

The Introduction of the Upanishads, Between 800 to 500 BC, marks the interval known as Pre-Classical Yoga. The word Upanishad implies that the only way a student could learn the truths in the texts was by sitting near and intends to sit near.

The Maitrayaniya Upanishad outlined a path to liberation. This six-fold yoga course included controlling the breath (pranayama), withdrawing the senses (pratyahara), meditation (dhyana), concentration (dharana), contemplation (tarka), and absorption (samadhi). Patanjali's Yoga Sutra was to mirror these avenues with increased elucidation and a few additions.

Two yoga disciplines Gained prominence now: karma yoga (course of action or ritual) and jnana yoga (path of study or knowledge of the scriptures). Both paths resulted in liberation or enlightenment. The Bhagavad-Gita, composed around 500 BC afterwards included the bhakti yoga (the path of loyalty ) for this route.

It was in the time of the Upanishads the idea of Ritual sacrifice was internalized and became the idea of sacrifice of the self through action self-knowledge and wisdom. This remains an important part of the philosophy of yoga today. Much like the Vedas, the Upanishads comprised nothing of what we'd term as yoga asana practice now. The most important and probably first presentation of yoga arrived in the next phase.

Classical Period

Written some Time in the century produced a landmark defining what is currently known as the first period. This set of 195 sutras (aphorisms) is considered to be the first systematic demonstration of yoga, and Patanjali is revered as the father of yoga.

Patanjali described the path of yoga (ashtanga yoga), which described a practical treatise on living and laid a route for attaining harmony of the mind, body and soul. Strict adherence to which would lead one. Although modern yoga sees the need the sutras still function as a principle for living in the world.

Post-Classical Period
It Was in this period the belief of the human body as a temple was rekindled and yogis designed a clinic to rejuvenate the human body and to prolong life. It was no longer necessary to escape from reality; instead the focus was alive in the moment and about the correct path. The quest of the spiritual and the halves and the necessity to harmonize the mind, body and soul led to cleanse the entire body and brain, and also to Hatha yoga at the tenth or ninth century.
Contemporary Stage

Yoga in its present avatar owes a lot To heard gurus who researched and created schools of yoga, or traveled west to disperse the benefits of yoga. Back in 1893 Swami Vivekanada spoke about Raja yoga and addressed the Parliament of World Religions at Chicago. Swami Sivanada introduced the five principles of yoga and wrote several books on philosophy and yoga. J.Krishnamurti, the Indian philosopher, affected tens of thousands with his teachings and writings on Jnana yoga.

The epicenter of day yogapracticed in the west, started with Krishnamacharya, Mysore India in 1931.

T The very first Hatha yoga school was opened by krishnamacharya in the 1920s.

Since Then, a lot yoga professionals are becoming pioneers, locating new styles in keeping with the times and popularizing yoga. Now there are infinite styles of yoga, all based on components in different paths of yoga (see: The Paths of Yoga).

Yoga in the Usa has been A real yogi knows, although concentrated on the Asana side of this practice There is more to the encounter. I always advise students Styles and you will find one which provides you the most enrichment.
